Here are a few points to consider when getting quotes & ordering your wedding cake.
- I would suggest having a look on-line at the different styles of wedding cakes which are popular at the moment. There are a lot of them, so it could be helpful if you have some idea of your likes & dislikes beforehand.
- Consider you budget. How much can you spend? The size & design you choose will have a large bearing on the basic price.
- How many guests are you inviting ? Approximate numbers will be needed to give an accurate quote. Are you planning to use the cake for dessert ?, if not, you may prefer a slightly smaller cake.
- The date of your wedding
- The reception venue. Be aware that the location of your venue could incur traveling & transport costs.
- Colours, consider which colours you would like to incorporate in your design, do you have a theme or are you matching those worn by the bridal party.
- Design. It is good to have a rough idea of the number of tiers, basis shape, & bring along pictures of what you like.
- Flavours. There are many different flavours to choose from, but be aware that not all are suitable for all designs. Your cake-maker will have a list of available flavours & taste-testing can be arranged.
- Orders should be placed 4-6 months prior to your wedding, especially in peak season to avoid disappointment.
- Ask about deposits, payment & delivery. A deposit is usually required upon booking.
- If you have an unusual design request or a quirky or personal touch you would like to include in your design JUST ASK !. Most cake-makers are more than happy to personalize your cake for your special day, ( if possible !)
- Adding tiers, unusual shapes and intricate decorations will increase the cost due to the skill & time required to create them.
Overall if there is one piece of advice i can give brides when choosing a cake it would be : KEEP IT SIMPLE
An elegant, classical cake will always look beautiful ! Too many of your “favorite bits” on one cake can end up looking a bit overdone. Try keeping to a style.
HAPPY CAKING !
